And here’s another layout, inspired by Paige Evans. I used her geometric cat cut file for this layout. I was also inspired by this gorgeous work of art by Thea Proctor called The Swing:
This was the inspiration piece for the ARTastic blog and the challenge was to use black pen on your page. I was taken by the bright colours and the striking black outlines. And of course I thought it was the perfect opportunity to use a sketch pen in my Silhouette.
So first I used my sketch pen on a piece of printer paper so I could check placement and size. I would also use it to cut the pattern paper later. I prepped my cardstock with some gesso just in the area where the design was going to go.
I used a gel pen in my sketch pen holder and it rolled beautifully on the gesso. I picked a couple of spots where I wanted my pattern papers to go and cut those out from the scrap paper I had “practiced” on. I used papers from my Scraptastic club kit (I have really stretched that kit!), from my Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party 6×6 pad, some CP Flea Market papers and some CTMH papers.
Oh and I also used a Theresa Collins paper. I just wanted a selection of bright colours and small patterns. I filled in the rest of the spaces with watercolours, splattering them around the page as well. When it was dry, I went over everything again with a black sharpie to make the lines really stand out. I also wanted to give it a more sketched, hand-drawn look. I also splattered gold watercolour paint on my page.
I didn’t want my photos and embellishments to cover up my beautiful kitty so I had the idea to cluster everything in the top left corner where I had a lot of blank space. I lay down a couple of strips of washi tape, my photos and then the branding strip from the Curious paper (Wonder collection, CP).
The photos were a bit dark and monochrome so I wanted to add a lot of bright colours around them. I added some tangled thread in blue, pink and purple. Then I went crazy with puffy stickers, gems, sequins, enamel dots, and a cat shaped paper clip.
I outlined some of the puffy stickers in black pen to tie it all together, and doodled several shapes directly on the cardstock.
I was kinda stuck for a title. I wanted something small and neutral so it wouldn’t compete with the embellies and cat. I went with PAWS because its short, and its the focus of the photos. I used my MME Wood Necessities alpha stickers.
I hope I inspired you to use bright colours, and your sketch pens to create an interesting design on your page. Hop on over to the ARTastic blog to link up for your chance to win a fabulous prize pack.
