It’s day 2 of card week, and today I am showing you my more artsy cards. I used a little bit of mixed media and doodling on these ones:
The cards are also in Russian! They are for my aunt and grandma who live in Russia and Ukraine.
Keep reading for details and close-ups:
I learned early on to NOT put mixed media directly on my cardstock as it will warp like crazy. Instead I just spread gesso on some paper and cut it to size to glue to the front of my card. Then I put some snowman stickers, and added gesso on top of that. It muted the colours quite a bit for a softer, more artsy effect. Then I doodled around the snowmen, and the paper, added enamel dots and splattered blue homemade shiny paint. For the greeting, I wrote it out by hand in black, then bronze pen. It says “happy holidays”.
For this set, I doodled a whole bunch of presents and then fussy cut them out. I also hand cut several triangles of pattern paper and doodled around the edges. Lastly, I splattered home-made gold shine. I make my shine sprays from a mixture of liquid watercolors, metallic liquid watercolors (both from my local art supply store) and some water, until I get the consistency I like. Unfortunately, they don’t actually mist well, and I’m not sure if that’s the fault of the liquid or the bottles I buy, but it splatters well and that’s what I use it for most.
Stop by tomorrow for day 3 of card week.
xoxo
