Stick it Down January Challenge

This is my first design team post! This is for the Stick it Down challenge blog. The sketch we were working from is this one:

The first thing I worked on was the layering strips down the right side. I built that up using vellum, a cut apart strip, ripped cardstock, and gold washi tape, as well as some stitching for lots of texture.

The second thing I added was the tissue paper circles. I started with one, but then decided to follow it up the page, stitching them down and ruffling the edges. I pulled the journal tag from the same cut apart sheet as the layer strip to match that and echo the circles in the design. I placed the photos mostly vertically (the way I placed my circles, it didn’t look as good going straight down), and since everything else was so busy, I only layered a bit of white tissue paper under the photos. The title I kept simple, cutting flamenco from white textured cardstock and using my grey mushroom alphas from Jillibean Soup, adding another layer of stitching to hold them down.

The third thing I wanted to bring focus to from the sketch was the flower on top. This was what inspired me to use this sketch for a flamenco themed photo with roses. Here is a neat trick for anyone who upgraded to a Silhouette cutting machine from a manual crank die cutter: Cut the design on black (or dark solid) cardstock and place all the pieces onto a white piece of paper, then scan it. Save it as a .png and import into Studio. Trace the dies, and then save them to your library. Now, you can cut it any size you want, and you can still cut them if you get rid of the manual machine. I really liked the rose die cut from the Confetti line from Maggie Holmes, so I got the idea to digitize a manual die that way. I never had a manual machine, but I got around that by getting someone to cut my dies out for me and then scanning them in. For the glittery gold leaves, I covered a piece of paper with gold washi tape and cut that. It turned out so pretty!

Last thing I did was mirror the dots going down the left side of the photos with polka dot washi tape.
